Welcome
Monastiriako is on the
edge of a small village - Giannoudi, with its share of ancient
ruined buildings and a few well-restored ones.
The
Venetian village Giannoudi is situated 3 km away from
Rethymnon
and 70 km from Heraklion and Chania, in the north of
Crete.
Hidden in the hills,
concealed between this ruins you will find the wonderfully restored
building, classified as of
architectural and historic conservation merit.
Monastiriako can be seen as the meeting
point of four civilizations and cultures, the Arabian, the
Byzantine,
the Venetian and the Turkish. The guests of Monastiriako
will experience unique moments of a bygone era within a
incomparable architectural and natural beauty.
As its name hints, it is built on the grounds of a
16th
century monastery and the church of these origins sits next to it.
The
spacious suites (35 - 80 sqm each) are named by the Cretan and
Greek Mythology.
Each one is different decorated and furnished. Ornamented by a circular
pool, as you peer out of the solid-stone
columns of your atmospheric quarters and survey the sweep of
forested green hills.
An old olive press still sits in the courtyard,
cleverly acting as an impromptu dining area. There are terraces,
courtyards and patios for those quiet moments.
